The Vampire Strikes Back by jhwood9 The Vampire Strikes Back by jhwood9
I haven't done a lot of fan art; I should do more.  This is a piece for Mike and Carole Curtis's Shanda the Panda, a slice-of-life story about a panda bear who manages a theater (based on Curtis's real-life experience in the industry).

I should note that there is no digital finishing whatsoever in this piece.  It was completely accomplished with brush, ink, technical pens, white-out, and hand-cut zipatones.

Shanda the Panda and other characters are copyright 2015 Mike and Carole Curtis.

OLD ART ALERT:  I finished this piece sometime in 1995.

CURRENT EVENTS TAG:  May the Fourth Be With You.

Sadly I haven't had much time lately; I've been home-schooling my kids, and I have my own engineering business now, too.  I'm finding that being a business owner is a 24-7 job, one that doesn't really pay very well.

Well, it's nothing new; I completed this piece almost twenty years ago.  It's funny, because I was very proud of it when I made it, but now I look at it and see that I could do much better.

I worked a summer job in the 1980s as a movie theatre usher...the movie playing was "Return of The Jedi".

The scenes and dialogue still stay with me to this day, having seen bits and pieces of the movie about 100 times during my job shift.   Job lasted two months and got laid off when ticket sales went down.

I remember a friend of mine who was a projectionist at a theater in the late 1970s was not a big "Star Wars" fan.  Some theaters kept it in constant circulation for more than a year after it's release, because demand was so high.  As a result, some theater workers saw the movie thousands and thousands of times.  Yeah, that might get a little old after awhile.
